MAKE MAJOR PROGRESS WITH THIS ONE HEALTHY HABIT

For many years, I’ve worked with a wide population of individuals and groups on health and wellness related goals. While wellness is a highly personal journey, there’s one pattern that persists. I feel compelled to share this finding with you … along with a winning remedy, of course.

The pattern looks a little something like this. A goal is set, efforts are made and then life happens [insert some challenge, mood or adversity] which results in a bad day (or bad week or bad month). This minor setback is enough to derail even the best efforts, and unfortunately all efforts are then abandoned until next week, next month or even worse yet ... next year.

It’s my experience and belief that the single most important variable in achieving progress, and therefore results, is a relentless willingness to begin again (and again, and again if need be). This commitment can produce the difference between failed hopes / aspirations and steady progress characterized by small, consistent wins.

In speaking with a group last week, I shared this mantra, “Each day, I begin again.” Let’s call this an attitude. I can confidently say that I have firmly adopted an attitude of each day, I begin again. If this doesn’t cast hope and opportunity, I don’t know what does. ;)

Every day is a beautiful opportunity to start fresh, with renewed energy and a wiser, revised plan. Much like kids, adults don’t function at their personal best when feeling hungry, angry, lonely or tired. There’s something about good rest, and time to reflect and process, that makes everything just a little bit easier.

I encourage you to use this insight both personally and professionally. Celebrate all the times you begin again, and look for the opportunity to repeatedly encourage others with this message. November is the month of gratitude – which is equally awesome and powerful. Let’s add encouragement and hope to that wellness toolkit. Offer encouragement that validates your teams’ challenges, yet casts insane amounts of possibility and positivity.

Let’s send the message to employees that they matter – and that they are fully supported in achieving their personal and professional best. Remind them the myriad of ways you want to prioritize their physical, mental and emotional well-being (just to name a few).
