SEVEN WAYS TO UNPACK & AWAKEN PURPOSE
Purpose – the reason something exists, is done or created – is a topic that can overwhelm the mind while stirring the heart and gut. It’s a potential area of focus when self-assessing or reflecting in the health coaching process, yet we may naturally shy away from tackling subject matter that big. But what a disservice this is to our quality of life and our life’s work. It is my hope – and yes, purpose – to guide people with discovery and nurturance of purpose.
Are you ready to walk with me a bit?
Upon sitting down with my morning coffee and a handful of cats, these seven considerations flowed from pen to paper almost effortlessly. See, when we’re clear on purpose, many actions become easier because we were made for it. The mind then homes in on the task at hand and the process of creating (any type of work, product or process) organically unfolds. Will there be challenges? Yes, but when we leverage purpose (and flow) we have the skills and strengths for what’s in front of us.
Here are those seven ways to rethink and therefore reframe personal purpose:
P – Passion
Pursuing passions can lead us to uncover purpose. Passion is a driving, unwavering force that fuels our thoughts and behavior. When we are passionate about something, we become relentless in seeing it through.
U – Uniqueness
We are each uniquely positioned to satisfy our purpose with the gifts, talents and interests we enjoy. I think we underestimate just how unique we each are. There never has been, nor will there be, another you (as you are today). Sit with that power for a moment.
R – Relationships
Purpose-driven living naturally brings meaningful relationships into our lives and positively impacts all involved. We are never operating on an island. We are part of something much, much bigger – a collective effort.
P – Possibility
In the process of discovering purpose, we must be open-minded to new possibilities and a willingness to try new experiences … even if that involves being a new beginner at something or feeling slightly uncomfortable.
O – Opportunity
Considering how a new opportunity – personal or professional – ties to our purpose can reduce longer-term resentment and drive life satisfaction (i.e., contentment) while reducing stress.
S – Spirit
Choices that support purpose lift our spirits, mood and morale, allowing that which animates us to truly shine. When one person shines, it illuminates everything and lets others experience that light. What if that kind of charisma became contagious? I think that’s what the world, and our workplaces, need more of right now.
E – Energy
When we live in alignment with our purpose, it can be incredibly energizing. I’m not talking about the kind of jolt we get from a favorite caffeinated beverage. I’m talking about the kind of energy that is activating and uplifting, fueling the day completely differently.
If any of this insight speaks to you or resonates in some way, I’d love to hear from you. It’s this kind of feedback that can only further fuel purpose. Additionally, I’d also love to bring this message to any groups who might benefit from more clarity on their purpose (and therefore) impact on their workplaces, social circles and the world at large. Let’s connect soon!
